Try to mimic the way you eat at home while you are on the road. Your body thrives on balance and consistency. You will have more energy, your GI tract will move more regularly and you will feel better if you don't change too much from how you eat at home vs how you eat on the road. This includes eating at the same time of day that you do at home, in the same amounts as you do at home and with the same nutrient content as you do at home. You won't be perfect, simply due to the fact that you don't have the exact foods that you have available to you at home, but you can certainly come close with some knowledge and advanced planning.

Prioritize Protein! Prioritizing protein will automatically assist in regulating blood sugar. In the most basic terms, what this means is that your energy will be high and you will spare any muscle loss while traveling. This may also be the hardest thing to do while traveling, but if you are mindful about it, it will be much easier. Some easy choices to look for while on the road are: hard boiled eggs at hotels and rest stops, greek yogurt at grocery stores or gas stations, grilled chicken at restaurants or fast food joints, and nuts & jerky at convenience stores. Another option is to pack high protein snacks and bring them with you! Planning is key whether it's knowing what to purchase and order or knowing what to bring with you ;)

There is perhaps nothing more crucial to athletic performance and overall health than optimal hydration. Make sure that you are well hydrated before you leave for your trip. This includes enough water for your body AND the correct amount of electrolytes for your body as well. It's common to restrict fluids while traveling because of the inconvenience of stoping to use rest rooms on the road. I assure you it will be the key factor to making you feel good and perform at your best throughout your traveling journey. Make sure you know how to hydrate for YOUR body and YOUR goals and don't stray from that simply because you are away from home. It's game changer for sure.
